Web Design:
Innisfail Town Theater – Innisfail, AB
Tracy and Mark, two volunteers with the Innisfail Town Theater, reached out to me looking to give their website an updated, more professional and modern look. ITT as it is more affectionately known, was formed by a group of local theater enthusiasts in 1979. Since then, we’ve staged over 80 plays in The Town of Innisfail and surrounding communities.
Their mission is to provide quality live community theater for our patrons and to provide a fun, creative outlet for our members – and it was my job to create a website that reflected those values.

Conceptualize
The journey begins with an in-depth brainstorming session, diving deep into the essence of what the client envisions for their website. For the Innisfail Town Theater, this meant capturing the rich tapestry of their history, the vibrancy of their productions, and their commitment to community engagement.
The design process focused on structuring an intuitive navigation system so visitors can easily find past productions, upcoming events, and information about the theater’s home at Ol’ Moose Hall. It ensured the site works seamlessly across devices, from desktop to mobile, while integrating essential features like ticket sales, event updates, and social media connectivity.
Create
This is where ideas take form, and the magic of design and development happens. Building the Innisfail Town Theater website required a balance of creativity and functionality, ensuring every element added value to the user experience.
Key Focus Areas for the New Design
- Rich Historical Integration:
- The site showcases the theater’s legacy, including its foundation in 1979, over 80 plays, and its relocation to Ol’ Moose Hall in 2009. Visitors can immerse themselves in a detailed timeline of productions, learning about the theater’s journey and cultural impact on the community.
- This information is organized in an engaging and digestible way, with a blend of visuals and text that keeps users interested.
- Enhanced Ticketing System:
- A brand-new online ticketing system was integrated via Showpass, making it easier than ever for patrons to purchase tickets. The system is seamlessly embedded into the site, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience for users.
- The ticketing system also allows for clear communication of event dates, times, and pricing, reducing confusion and encouraging conversions.
- Detailed Information on Ol’ Moose Hall:
- The theater’s home is a story in itself, and the website provides a comprehensive overview of its history and renovations. Visitors can learn about the building’s transformation into a cultural landmark, complete with photos and narrative content that add depth to the story.
- A seating chart was also created, giving users a clear visual of the venue layout and helping them make informed seating choices when purchasing tickets.
- Interactive and Visual Design:
- High-quality imagery from past productions brings the theater’s work to life on the site. These visuals are paired with engaging text to create a compelling narrative.
- A clean, modern layout ensures the website is visually appealing while keeping the focus on the theater’s mission and events.
- SEO Optimization:
- The site was designed with SEO in mind, ensuring it ranks well for key terms like “community theater,” “Innisfail events,” and “local productions.” This helps attract more traffic and potential audience members.
The creation phase brought the Innisfail Town Theater’s story to life through a carefully crafted design that transformed ideas into a vibrant, user-friendly platform that connects the past, present, and future of the theater.
Communicate
For the Innisfail Town Theater, the site is more than a digital presence—it’s an extension of their brand and values. Every detail of the website, from the font choices to the tone of the content, reflects the theater’s dedication to the arts and its strong ties to the community.
The site is designed to not only inform but also inspire, inviting long-time patrons to reminisce about past productions while encouraging new visitors to discover the theater and become part of its story. The result is a website that doesn’t just meet the client’s needs—it exceeds them, creating a lasting impression on everyone who visits.
