When the idea was presented to give a new look to the site, there were some functionality changes that needed to be made as well. Trimlock had made some major changes to some specific areas of their business that weren’t covered by the design we did back in 2021, as they say….life moves fast.

I was excited to give the website a more professional and streamlined look. The major focus was to create a site that focused on their new goals, but stayed true to their brand and the professional products they create.

Design.

As with all my design projects, I began by extracting key branding elements from available resources, focusing on colours, font choices, and the overall look and feel.

My goals for the new design for 2025 included:

1. Enhanced User Flow: Restructuring the information layout to ensure a seamless user experience, making it easy for visitors to find what they need.
2. Increased Call-to-Actions: Incorporating clear and compelling call-to-action buttons to guide users toward desired actions, such as contacting TrimLock or exploring product details.
3. SEO Optimization: Implementing best practices for SEO to boost organic search rankings and drive more traffic to the site.
4. Dynamic Design Elements: Utilizing high-resolution images, vibrant colours, and modern formatting to make the website visually appealing and reflective of TrimLock’s innovative spirit.
5. Brand Consistency: Leveraging the unique colours and contrasts in TrimLock’s logo to create a cohesive and attractive design that stands out.

For each page, I implemented a striking hero section featuring animated high-resolution photos of TrimLock’s product lives. The layout prioritized information flow, supported by new imagery provided by the client. I used orange buttons, matching their logo, to highlight links to informational PDFs, and white and blue backgrounds to separate sections. Custom icons were designed to represent each product application.

New pages included a Gallery page, which allowed Trimlock to showcase its products. A cool “Before and After” gallery was added to emphasize how their products can create curb appeal for any structure. The contact section was revamped to become its own page, and we expanded the “Product Resources” page to include much more downloadable information for their clients.

The initial design for the TrimLock Ltd. website was one of my proudest projects. The site’s modern, mobile-friendly look features clear, concise information presented with SEO-friendly text hierarchy and vibrant colours. 

However, like all things in this world, nothing is ever perfect. As Trimlock changed, so did the website. We removed some modern design elements, expanded on the information that was available, simplified the colour palette, and created a more elegant and clean design.

The conceptualize phase focused on integrating the newly created visual identity into a site structure built around vertical, scroll-based flow: fewer clicks, more immediate context. The new logo had to align with their industrial domain, projecting strength and technical precision while being readable across digital media.

I mapped out a pared-down navigation hierarchy so critical service pages (Explosive Storage, Welding & Fabrication, Plasma Cutting, Drilling Solutions) take center stage. The concept also included building a flexible content module system so future expansions or product lines could slot in without major structural changes.

Throughout the build, I used the brand colour palette, typography choices, and design modules so every page feels consistent. I also optimized for responsiveness, ensuring the site adapts cleanly on mobile, tablet, and desktop. During the build, emphasis fell on four core areas.

     • Key service sections appear in full-width segments, allowing users to absorb what the company offers
     • Navigation is sticky, section-aware, and reduces the need to backtrack.
3. Clear Service Display & Call-to-Action Placement
   • • Service pages were reworked to show high-impact visuals, concise descriptions
     • Clear “Get a Quote” or “Contact Us” CTAs
     • I ensured each service page leads visitors toward conversion: explosive magazines, welding & fabrication, drilling components, etc.
     • Images and icons provide visual cues to reinforce messaging.
4. Content Clean-up & Focused Messaging
   • • The old site included pages and content that no longer aligned with current operations.
     • I audited every section, removed outdated or redundant content, and rewrote core pages to reflect Kodiak’s current capabilities.
     • Reduced clutter, improved SEO focus, and made the site more navigable.

The result is a clean, functional build that supports Kodiak’s services without overcomplicating the user experience. Every section is intentional, every page has a purpose, and the site is set up to scale as the business grows.

The strategy began with building a site structure that was clear, direct, and organized. I translated the new brand visuals into a minimal layout that uses strong type, generous white space, and clear call-to-actions.

From a user perspective, the website needed to:

I chose WooCommerce as the e-commerce engine due to its flexibility and full integration with WordPress. It allows full control over the sign-up flow, registration capacity, product organization, and payment processing, all in one system. The entire layout was planned around action-based navigation, getting people to browse offerings, click to register, and pay, with as few steps as possible.

With the structure and functionality mapped out, I moved into the build phase. Using the finalized branding and project goals, I focused on developing a site that was both easy to manage and efficient for users. The design and setup addressed key pain points Jenn had identified. Here’s where we focused our attention:

     • Secure Stripe integration for credit card payments

3. Clear, Structured Information Architecture:
   • • I reduced cognitive load by creating straightforward pages with focused content. Each section of the site has a specific role:
       • How It Works: A step-by-step breakdown of what users can expect
       • FAQ: Covers registration, policies, what’s included, and more
       • Leagues, Lessons, Events: Each with clear pricing, descriptions, and registration options
       • Contact & Support: Easy to reach out if something isn’t clear
     • This approach cuts down on email questions, improves SEO structure, and helps new visitors find what they need quickly.
4. Private Member Area
   • • Members needed access to info not meant for the general public — event schedules, updates, or private invitations. I created a password-protected page where current members can log in to view exclusive content.
     • This is managed manually for now, but it can scale to a full member management system if needed. The structure is already in place.

The end result is a website that looks aligned with the brand, functions smoothly on both front and back ends, and simplifies daily operations. Every element was built with purpose, to support growth, reduce admin work, and deliver a seamless experience for every user.

When I first built the Sylvan Lake RV website, I was working full-time at the dealership and used a pre-built WordPress theme. It served its purpose but had limitations. The theme restricted customization, making it challenging to control individual elements and achieve the desired modern aesthetic.

   • The original site felt dated. It needed a visual and structural refresh to match how people use websites today. I updated the layout with a clean, modern look that reflects Sylvan Lake RV’s brand and makes navigation simple.
   • Fonts and colours were updated for better readability and a more polished appearance. I also made the layout more responsive across devices, so whether you’re on a phone or a desktop, everything works and looks the way it should.
3. Content Audit and Streamlining:
   • Over the course of nearly 10 years, the site had collected a lot of extra pages and content that no longer served a purpose. I worked with Doug to review what needed to stay and what could go. We trimmed the site down significantly, focusing only on pages and content that are useful and relevant.
   • This helped improve load times, made updates easier to manage, and created a better experience for visitors by eliminating distractions and dead ends.

The result is a leaner, sharper, and more effective website, built to showcase inventory, support day-to-day operations, and reflect the current state of the business.

We also integrated social media links and an email list signup form for visitors to stay engaged with updates from Spirit Creek. A dedicated contact form and clickable phone numbers ensured that getting in touch was just a click away.

In summary, the new Spirit Creek Golf & RV Park website is designed to be a comprehensive, engaging, and easy-to-navigate online destination. It brings together the best of golf and camping, reflecting the vibrant spirit and commitment to quality that the new owners envisioned for their guests.

The first task in rebuilding the website for Platinum Fitness was to correct my earlier mistakes. Initially, I secured a .org domain for Stephen, which is typically used for non-profit organizations, not fitness businesses. This misrepresentation needed rectifying, so we transitioned to a more appropriate domain and hosting plan.

With the technical details sorted, I visited the gym to capture updated photos of the facilities and equipment. The gym had added several new machines, which needed to be highlighted on the site. Stephen also provided me with information about the gym’s history, current membership, and community involvement. This helped in creating a comprehensive and engaging website.

2. 24-Hour Access: Emphasizing the convenience of around-the-clock availability.

During my visit, I noticed the inspirational quotes and messages adorning the gym walls. This inspired me to feature similar quotes in the hero sections of each webpage, paired with powerful images that embody fitness and personal growth. This approach underscores the gym’s commitment to its members’ success.

Each page was carefully crafted to include the necessary information, supported by fitting imagery. The aim was to ensure that key information was bold and immediately noticeable to visitors. To add a vibrant touch to the black-and-white logo, Stephen and I incorporated a pop of orange, enhancing the overall visual appeal.

This project not only revitalized the Platinum Fitness website but also solidified its brand, making it a true representation of strength and inclusion.

Wildcat Fire had a wealth of information about their services and equipment, crucial for constructing an informative website. They need to “bid” for contract jobs throughout wildfire season, making detailed service information essential.

My main focus was to create a website that was visually appealing, clearly organized, and informative. It needed to showcase their comprehensive services, the high-quality equipment they use, and their unique custom manufacturing capabilities. This approach would not only highlight their expertise but also draw in potential clients through improved SEO practices.

Design.

The first crucial step with Wildcat Fire Services was freeing them from their restrictive contract with their previous contractor, which left them with no control over their web or email hosting. At Arktos, I ensure clients maintain complete ownership of their accounts – I never take control. Partnering with 4Real I.T. Solutions in Innisfail, Alberta, we secured new email and web hosting services and seamlessly migrated all existing emails. Ken and his team, known for their top-notch support, played a pivotal role in this transition.

1. Design Layout: The header included the Wildcat logo and a navigation menu, integrated links to WCFS’s social media accounts and prominently displayed a clickable link to their 24-hour emergency phone number—critical for fire safety and suppression services. The footer included a user-friendly contact form, additional contact information, and another clickable link to the emergency line.
2. Importance of Content and Imagery: The quality of imagery significantly impacts a website’s appeal. While WCFS provided substantial information, their provided photos didn’t meet the mark. I captured new, high-quality photos of all their equipment. This superior imagery provided greater flexibility in layout and graphic design. Any gaps in media were filled using stock imagery from iStock.

With the foundational work complete, the focus shifted to laying out each page for intuitive navigation and information accessibility. The new Wildcat Fire Services website effectively showcases their services, equipment, and custom manufacturing capabilities, leveraging robust SEO practices and a modern, user-friendly design to attract potential clients and support ongoing business growth.

The colour combinations and font hierarchy provided an opportunity to break up information into sections, ensuring readability while emphasizing key details. Ultimately, WCFS deserved a meticulously crafted website that reflects their professionalism and capabilities. I’m confident that the design achieves just that, providing a robust online presence that enhances their brand and attracts new opportunities.

I was excited about creating the website for Fair Maven. Working in an industry I hadn’t explored before, with a target demographic that was new to me, presented a unique challenge. I needed to “loosen up” and design something more fluid and creative while maintaining functionality.

Rachel’s business, officially named Fair Maven | Derma • Lash • Pro, provided a clear direction for the site’s organization. The focus on skincare products (Derma) would be the foundation of the design. Given that her primary target demographic is women, the site needed to be modern, feminine, elegant, and informational.

The challenge lay in balancing these elements to create a visually appealing yet functional site. The layout was strategically planned to highlight her skincare products prominently while also showcasing her eyelash extension services. This approach not only aligned with her business goals but also ensured that visitors could easily navigate the site and find the information they needed.

Design.

To kick off the project and buy some time to perfect the design, I built a temporary placeholder page. This allowed customers to still learn about Fair Maven and book appointments. Then, I dove into gathering branding information from the resources provided, including colours, fonts, and the overall vibe Rachel envisioned.

1. Design Aesthetics & Enhanced User Flow: I crafted a general aesthetic for Rachel to review by building a page for her Eyelash Extensions service. After a few coffee meetings, we nailed down a look that matched her personality while ensuring the site was optimized for generating traffic and ranking well in search engines.
2. Importance of Content for SEO and Credibility: Rachel preferred a clean and concise website, but after discussing the importance of content for establishing expertise and improving SEO, we expanded the content on key pages like Eyelash Extensions and Eyelash Training. We also added testimonials from Google, Facebook, and text messages to enhance credibility.
3. Dynamic Design Elements: I integrated CTA (call-to-action) buttons to guide visitors to various sections. The imagery was converted to high-contrast black and white for a modern, elegant feel, with soft pink accents to add a feminine touch.

To stay within budget, I opted out of a separate “Contact Us” page and created a custom footer with a contact form and all relevant information. The footer was complemented by a custom header with links to email, phone, and social media channels. This approach ensured a cohesive, stylish, and functional design that truly represents Fair Maven.

The final design for Fair Maven is one of my proudest achievements. The site has a sleek and playful vibe, presenting information clearly and concisely with an SEO-friendly text hierarchy.
